MADE FOR A PURPOSE

"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in this way: when his mother Mary was going to be married to Joseph, before they came together the discovery was made that she was with child by the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 1:18-20

THE QUIET HERO

Who truly knows Joseph? Not Joseph the dreamer — that son of Jacob who soared from a pit to a palace, who wore the coat of many colours and fed a famished generation. Not Joseph of Arimathea, that bold and influential man who stood before Pilate and tenderly laid the body of our Lord in his own tomb. No. This Joseph is different. Quieter. Simpler. A carpenter. An ordinary man in the streets of Israel — unremarkable by the world's measure, unannounced by fanfare or fame.

He sought no spotlight. He pursued no platform. He did not hunger for recognition or public promotion. And yet — Heaven chose him.

There is something deeply sacred about the man God trusts with silence.

CHOSEN FOR THE UNTHINKABLE

Joseph made history not by performing a miracle, not by writing a psalm, not by leading an army. He made history by saying YES — yes to a divine assignment that defied every natural instinct within him.

He had every logical reason to walk away. The woman he loved carried a child that was not his. The law was on his side. Public opinion would have understood. He could have made his case, defended his honour, and moved on with his life perfectly intact.

But in the stillness of a dream, Heaven whispered — and Joseph listened.

"Joseph, son of David, have no fear of taking Mary as your wife; because that which is in her body is of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 1:20

He did not argue with the angel. He did not negotiate with God. He did not demand a second confirmation or a clearer sign. He simply rose from that dream and walked straight into his purpose.

"And Joseph did as the angel of the Lord had said to him, and took her as his wife."— Matthew 1:24

No record of a miracle. No sermon. No testimony shared in the synagogue. No global ministry, no viral moment, no legacy carved in gold. Just one quiet, obedient act of surrender — and in that act, he cradled the salvation of all mankind.

He did not protect his reputation. He protected the mother of the Saviour.

That was enough. That was everything.

YOU WERE BORN FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS.

Esther walked into the king's palace and perhaps exhaled for the first time. Safety. Comfort. Royalty. Surely this was the reward — a life of beauty and rest, a chance to care for her beloved uncle Mordecai from a place of abundance.

But purpose has a way of interrupting comfort.

"Do not have the idea that you in the king's house will be safe... If at this time you say nothing, then help will come to the Jews from some other place, but you and your father's family will come to destruction: and who is to say that you have not come to the kingdom even for such a time as this?"— Esther 4:13-14

The crown was never the destination — it was the doorway. The palace was not her reward; it was her positioning. And so the queen who had every luxury at her fingertips chose to fast, to pray, to lay down her comfort — and to stand in the gap for an entire people on the brink of destruction.

Purpose will always cost you something. But it will never leave you empty.

LIVE UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED

David — warrior, worshipper, king — left this earth with the most beautiful epitaph a soul could carry:

"For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep." — Acts 13:36

He served his purpose. He finished his assignment. He did not drift. He did not wander. He did not waste the years God gave him. And when his time came, he laid down in peace — having given everything he was born to give.

What will they say of you?

YOU WERE SET APART BEFORE YOU DREW THE FIRST BREATH

"But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace..."— Galatians 1:15

Before your mother knew your name, God had already written your assignment. Before the world formed an opinion of you, Heaven had already carved out a space that only you could fill. You were not born by accident. You were not preserved by chance. There is a purpose burning within you — ancient, divine, and irreplaceable.

The question is not whether you have a purpose.

The question is: are you living it?

IT IS TIME TO PRAY

Lord, I refuse to live frivolously — drifting through days, wasting the sacred gift of time. Awaken in me the fire of purpose. Help me to hear Your voice as Joseph heard it, to respond as Esther responded, to finish as David finished. May my life be a testimony not of what I accumulated, but of what I surrendered to You. Help me live with purpose — and die fulfilled.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

  2. If only this piece can go round, giving anything we have to God in pursuit of purpose won't be difficult for believers to do.

As I read, thoughts ofarital problems leading to separation and divorce kept coming to my heart. I realize that even in the event of fornication, a Christian that listens to God won't separate or divorce his or her spouse.

Thank God for this piece. More grace.

    1. Hmmm... You've opened unto us a new chapter of reflecting purpose in our marriages. The PURPOSE is capable of overriding transient problems and challenges that confront our marriages.
