They went and came into the house of a harlot named Rahab, and they stayed there. (Joshua 2.1) It is probable that Rahab, due to her chosen profession, would have been neglected and abandoned by her family. She must have carried a public shame as long as she remained a prostitute. No nation or family would be happy to associate with a prostitute or whore. The strategic position of her house allowed for quick access to customers once they arrived in Jericho. Meanwhile, the two spies who were sent by Joshua were unusual customers.
