A DOSE OF COUNSEL FOR ORO AND EGUNGUN FOLLOWERS
I woke up this morning reading a lot of social media posts about the selected dates and days for the ORO festival in the part of the country where I live.
ORO is a secluded cultic 'religious' activity. Traditionally, it involves mature males and initiated participants. Women are forever banned from witnessing it, except for hearing it from inside (ETI L'OBIRIN FI NGBO OHUN ORO). Nobody reveals the activities in public. You keep what you see and know to yourself. Nobody exchanges pleasantries about what happened the day before in public.
During this time, men do all they can, including appearing like the first Adam in the garden. The absence of women grants men the freedom to engage in reckless behavior.
A few days ago, I was shown a TikTok live coverage of an ORO festival in a certain part of the country. Oh! What a sacrilege. An abomination, you would say. It is anti-tradition and a taboo. But that's the world we live in. Nothing seems to be hidden anymore. Smartwatches, AI smart glasses, portable recording devices, hidden cameras, and other technological gadgets can secretly capture any activities without notice.
May I advise those men who do not want their women to know about their hypocritical lifestyles: church deacons who are also ORO adherents, young men who fear their parental discipline, and those church boys and pastors' children who have an undying love for the ORO festival? Be careful; you might find yourself on live TikTok coverage, a Facebook post, or a YouTube video.
Centuries ago, an inspired writer foretold this:
"For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open." — Luke 8:17
"There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs." — Luke 12:2-3
If you seek a life that is not concealed and hypocritical, I advise you to come to Jesus. Nothing is hidden or secretive about following Jesus. It is never too late to come. Come today.
