WHY LORD?

Sometimes godly people suffer for no reason apparent to anyone but God. Be careful how you counsel people in their hurts (Erwin Lutzer)


Who can explain the suffering and 'torturing' of Job? His friends explained his ordeal in their myopic understanding: 


"Tell me, has there ever been a man like Job, with his thirst for irreverent talk? He chooses evil people as companions. He spends his time with wicked men. He has even said, 'Why waste time trying to please God?'  "Listen to me, you who have understanding. Everyone knows that God doesn't sin! The Almighty can do no wrong. He repays people according to their deeds. He treats people as they deserve" Job 34:7-11


Job on his part reacted disorderly and spoke words from his anguish until he was confronted by the Maker Himself: 


"Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind: "Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them" Job 38:1-3


God simply answered Job: "You have no idea of what I am doing. I advised you to keep quiet " For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. Isaiah 30:15.


Hannah was in bitterness of soul after several provocation from her rival Peninnah. She went to the temple to pour her heart unto the Lord. Unfortunately, the priest of the Lord, Eli took her to be a drunken woman. "And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee." 1 Samuel 1:14. Neither Elkanah nor Peninnah and even Eli has a clear understanding of what Hannah was going through. And even Hannah could only explained that she was of a sorrowful spirit and not a daughter of Belial. 


What explanation can Zachariah and Elizabeth give to their congregation of their perpetual barrenness even though they are avowed righteous and blameless in the things of God? Luke 1. 


Listen, 


Oh, how great are God's riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! 


For who can know the LORD's thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? 


And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?


For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36. 


The song of Ron Hamilton came to mind as I conclude this message: 


God never moves without purpose or plan

When trying His servant and molding a man.

Give thanks to the Lord though your testing seems long;

In darkness He giveth a song.


Refrain:

O Rejoice in the Lord, He makes no mistake,

I woke up this morning reading a lot of social media posts about the selected dates and days for the ORO festival in the part of the country where I live. ORO is a secluded cultic 'religious' activity. Traditionally, it involves mature males and initiated participants. Women are forever banned from witnessing it, except for hearing it from inside (ETI L'OBIRIN FI NGBO OHUN ORO). Nobody reveals the activities in public. You keep what you see and know to yourself. Nobody exchanges pleasantries about what happened the day before in public. During this time, men do all they can, including appearing like the first Adam in the garden. The absence of women grants men the freedom to engage in reckless behavior. A few days ago, I was shown a TikTok live coverage of an ORO festival in a certain part of the country. Oh! Some were ecstatic, praising God for doing such a wondrous thing. However, others opined that such an acclaimed conversion is nothing but a business tactic. They argued that his affiliation with the Celestial Church indicates that he is merely religious and pretentious about his faith in Christ. This group believes that the Celestial Church is not a place to find a true Christian. (Please, wait before you start casting aspersions on anyone.) Meanwhile, as fate would have it, I have been drawn to several of Wasiu Ayinde's songs on TikTok.  The children of Israel came into the Land of Promise as a conglomerate of twelve tribes. They needed unity to reach that point. But once they arrived in Canaan, each tribe had to take possession of its own inheritance. What you take is what you get. At this stage, collective effort would not suffice—each tribe needed to claim and secure its portion for future generations. God had already given clear instructions regarding what must be possessed: “For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off...
