FACE YOUR ASSIGNMENT
"But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ. And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him" Acts 9:22-23
"And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem. And he (Saul) spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him" Acts 9:28-29
Saul (Paul) had barely become an apostle when he faced two death threats. In Damascus, where he had obtained permission to arrest Christian faithfuls but eventually became one of them. And at Jerusalem, the Apostolic headquarters of the Christian Church.
✓ Was Paul the only called and anointed Apostle?
✓ Why was only his gospel messages leading to controversies, arguments and death threats?
The Church Synod/Conference in Acts 15 was not more than meeting called upon to examine Paul's teaching and doctrine.
It is clear from Paul's calling that he is to bear a different assignment not in the pattern of the Apostles before him:
1. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he (Saul) is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him (Saul) how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. Acts 9:15-16
2. But I (Saul) certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. Galatians 1:11-12
Paul has been called to reach the Gentiles which only by earthly rewards end in controversies, stoning, beating and death. Others have been called to reach the Holy people of Jews. Even Apostle Peter in 2 Peter 3. 15-16 says some of Paul's wisdom are difficult to understood.
I am more resolute than ever to face my assignment and calling.
Today, some would question you if you drive speedily ahead of them. Many will attack you (including your brethren) if they would not understand your assignment in the view and comprehension of their parochial insight and understanding.
How likely are we to take an assignment that doesn't offer quick gratification which others enjoy?
How can I gather tenacity and courage to press further if only my assignment would not result in praise but death sentence?
How would I feel if the church/brethren gathered to examine my messages and pattern of life as was done to Paul in Acts 15?
Paul concluded: "I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I TAKE PRIDE IN MY MINISTRY" Romans 11:13.
Please, go ahead with your ministry and life. Don't wait till eternity expecting men's approval and understanding. Don't be troubled how God seems to have called you to think and act differently. Don't seek the wisdom of men. Don't submit your calling for general approval. Yet, you need diplomacy to carry out the assignment successfully. But guard jealously your unique assignment because you'll personally give account of it to the Master.
Lord, give me the courage to carry on and never give up on what you have called me to do and achieve. In Jesus name. Amen
