RAHAB 2023 (TOTAL TRANSFORMATION)


And Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men as spies secretly from Shittim, instructing them to go view the land and Jericho. They went and came into the house of a harlot named Rahab, and they stayed there. (Joshua 2.1)


It is probable that Rahab, due to her chosen profession, would have been neglected and abandoned by her family. She must have carried a public shame as long as she remained a prostitute. No nation or family would be happy to associate with a prostitute or whore.


The strategic position of her house allowed for quick access to customers once they arrived in Jericho. Meanwhile, the two spies who were sent by Joshua were unusual customers.


What transpired between Rahab and the two spies demonstrates how God can bring transformation to an entire family and nation through the decision of a single person.


1. "And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you." How can a prostitute have such accurate knowledge of God and describe His acts so precisely? Perhaps she had longed for a season like this, to have someone she could confide in and share that she had seen the Savior.


2. "Now therefore, I pray you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token: and that you will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death." Here was a woman who had been ostracized by her family and abandoned to face her shame alone. Yet, this same woman had a beautiful heart. When given the opportunity, she sought the salvation of her entire family: her father, mother, sisters, and everyone in the family. They had wished for her death to end the family shame, but she longed for their salvation so that the generation might be preserved to serve the Lord.


This is how Rahab, a harlot, saved her entire household from the wrath of God upon Jericho.


Today, God doesn't call great men, those with numerous certificates and diplomas. He looks for individuals with beautiful hearts, men and women like the Samaritan woman in John 4, who through their testimony can bring an entire land to its knees to acknowledge the Savior.


God seeks out men and women who genuinely love their people and constantly supplicate for their salvation. Men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line to seek the salvation of others.


My prayer is that I WILL BE THAT MAN.

 The children of Israel came into the Land of Promise as a conglomerate of twelve tribes. They needed unity to reach that point. But once they arrived in Canaan, each tribe had to take possession of its own inheritance. What you take is what you get. At this stage, collective effort would not suffice—each tribe needed to claim and secure its portion for future generations. God had already given clear instructions regarding what must be possessed: “For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off...
