THE CHURCH IN A CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY (10)

THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION IN THE HOLY PLACE

"And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days." - Daniel 12:11

I have read this passage by Daniel numerous times. I have struggled relentlessly to understand what it means. Even when I gained a little clarity, I concluded that it could only occur after the rapture of the saints. However, God recently revealed to me that it is an event that will happen in the church age.

Hmmm... The 'reckless' church has tried every means to maintain its financial and structural prosperity by competing with other institutions. It is not surprising to note that today we have the richest church and richest pastors as rated by secular institutions.

It is not an exaggeration to say that the church, in its pursuit to raise its financial and structural standards, has deviated from the biblical pattern and has allowed its members to live in great delusion.

Sadly, I have witnessed many churches soliciting financial contributions from unbelievers and even traditionalists, following the pattern of the early Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church, in its effort to raise funds for the reconstruction of the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, introduced the doctrine of purgatory. This doctrine refers to a place of temporary punishments for those who died in their sins. According to Johann Tetzel, the priest appointed by the Pope to sell indulgences, "As soon as a coin in the bowl rings, a soul from purgatory springs."

Please, the desolation is here. Aside from the disrespectful and unbiblical awards given to church members, there are instances where even Alhaji and Alhaja (Islamic titles) are given such recognition by the church. Wicked pastors have now resorted to employing secular Master of Ceremonies (MCs) to host their programs. The audacity of the remarks made on God's altar is alarming. Imagine the insolent, mean-spirited, and vulgar language echoing through the church microphone to the community. Hardened criminals are now gainfully employed and engaged on God's sacred altars. All kinds of devilish and sexually arousing displays and incantations take place on the dedicated altar.

The daily sacrifice is gone. Abomination has been set up on God's sanctified altar, the one where the fire must burn continually.

Brothers, sisters, dear pastors, and general overseers, were you called to raise money or raise many souls? When God called you, did He ever instruct you to raise money for Him? Did He say He would punish you if you did not raise a building for Him? Where did the idea of fundraising, award-giving, harvest services, etc. come from? Are you certain that you are still on the right path?

My heart aches as I witness the profanity taking over the altar. Will you rebuild this altar for God and allow the fire to continue burning on it? This is the purpose of our calling.

May the Lord count you faithful until the end. Amen.
